African American Worship Music: A Heritage Worth Preserving

Mother and daughter Marlene and Danielle Gallman join host Jeanne Dennis to talk about their experiences with music and worship growing up in the church. Throughout the discussion, Marlene and Danielle sing examples of the music they grew up with.

During the show we discuss how the music, including the Negro spirituals, have been passed down and preserved. The most famous person to record the spirituals for posterity was Harry T. Burleigh. We reviewed his life and legacy in an interview with author Craig von Buseck.
