Overnight Guest
by Kimberlee Edgecomb
I brush my teeth and head for bed.
My mommy goes with me.
She listens as I talk to God
while praying on my knees.
I ask the Lord to keep me safe
and bless my mom and dad,
to bless my sister and my dog
and help me not be bad.
When I am done, Mom tucks me in,
and then turns out the light.
She says she loves me as she leaves,
then kisses me goodnight.
I’m not afraid when I’m alone
but if I am I say,
“God, I know you’re with me now
and right here’s where you’ll stay.”
