You run from the tower and keep going until you reach the river. You jump in and swim to calm down. You play all afternoon.
When you return home, your house is empty. You run from house to house looking for neighbors, but everyone is gone. Back at home, you’re just about to cry yourself to sleep when the door bursts open and your mother wraps you in her arms.
“I knew I’d find you,” she says.
Your father and Joktan are in the doorway in their traveling clothes. As you leave your home forever, you realize the tower was a bad idea.
