Our Statement of Faith

The Bible

At Heritage of Truth we believe that the Bible as it was originally written is the inspired Word of God, infallible (incapable of being wrong), reliable, and without error. We believe the Bible is the highest and final authority in all matters of life, death, faith, and conduct.

The Triune (three in one) God

We believe in one God, the supreme Ruler and Creator who sustains all things. He is perfect in every way. He has always existed and will always exist in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe that God created the heavens and the earth for His pleasure and glory. He created all that is, with just His words. God spoke, and the heavens, earth, and everything in them—including all life—came into being.

We reject molecules to man evolution, an unproven and unprovable manmade theory, and believe that all variations within created kinds have resulted from natural, God-designed causes.*

We believe that all humans, unlike plants and animals, were created in God’s image. God displays evidence of His eternal power and divine nature through His creation so that people who do not believe in Him are without excuse (Rom. 1:20).

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ, the living Word, has existed with the Father from eternity. He became a human through His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit. Born of a virgin, He was fully God and fully man.

As the Son of God, Jesus did not inherit the sinful nature all other humans inherited from our father Adam. Though He was tempted in every way as we are, He lived a sinless life. He was the only one ever to do so (Heb. 4:15).

Jesus willingly died on the cross as the only acceptable sacrifice for the sins of all people, according to the Scriptures.

On the third day, He arose bodily from the dead. He ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us.

He will come again to the earth to judge the living and the dead and fulfill the eternal plan of God.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit has come to bring glory to Jesus Christ. He convicts people of sin and draws us to the Savior. He lives in the hearts of all believers, guiding, instructing, and empowering us for godly living, growth, and ministry. He seals us (marks us as God’s own) for the day of redemption. Saved persons show evidence of their salvation through changed lives. God produces these changes through the work of the Holy Spirit.

Salvation

We believe our first parents disobeyed God and brought sin into the world, corrupting God’s perfect creation and leaving all mankind with a sin nature. Our sin separates us from God, and we have no ability to bridge the gap ourselves.

We must depend on God’s grace for salvation. (Grace is God’s unmerited favor.) He offers us salvation as a free gift.

We believe everyone has sinned against the perfect and holy God. It is His holiness and righteousness we have rebelled against. Because of our sin, we all justly deserve to be condemned to hell for eternity.

None of us has the ability to save himself or herself by doing good deeds or being “a good person.” Salvation comes only through the finished work of Jesus through His suffering, death, and resurrection.

Only those who are born of the Holy Spirit and receive Jesus Christ in faith and repentance become children of God and heirs of eternal life.

When we put our faith in Christ alone for salvation, God credits Jesus’ righteousness to us, just as if we had never sinned.

We believe that everyone will be resurrected from the grave, the saved to eternal life in heaven and the lost to eternal damnation in a literal place of unending suffering called hell.

The Church

We believe that the true Church, the body of Christ, includes all persons who have saving faith in Jesus Christ. These believers are being perfected (sanctified) by the Holy Spirit.

We believe Christians are commanded to use the gifts God has given us to love, support, and build up the body of Christ in fellowship with other believers.

This usually takes the form of local bible-believing churches. There the Word of God is faithfully preached, the sacraments are administered, scriptural discipline is practiced, and loving fellowship is maintained.

The Great Commission

The Lord Jesus Christ commands all believers to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world and to make disciples of all nations.

Obeying the Great Commission requires our total commitment to Him. Spreading the Word of God to all who will listen is our responsibility, duty, and joy.

And so if you do not know Jesus as your Savior and the Lord of your life, we commend Him to you.
